Okanagan Investment Group

Student-led investment research and portfolio management.

Who we are

Curious minds, open doors.

We bring together experienced investors and students who have never invested before, united by curiosity about markets and a belief that financial literacy should be accessible to everyone.

Okanagan Investment Group was founded and is run by UBC Okanagan students. Every week we research companies, debate ideas, and learn from one another, with no prior experience required.

We are currently working toward ratification as an official club with the Students' Union Okanagan (SUO).

What we do

Learn markets by doing.

Hands-on programs designed for every level, from your first stock pitch to managing a team portfolio.

Stock Pitch Competitions

Every two weeks, members research a company and pitch it to the group. The best thesis wins.

Paper Trading Competitions

Trade with real market prices and no real money. Test strategies and compete without the risk.

Simulated Portfolio

A team-managed portfolio where members propose, debate, and vote on every position.

Market Analysis Sessions

Break down earnings, economic data, and the week's market moves together.

Guest Speakers

Hear from professionals across finance and business about their careers and how they invest.

Beginner Workshops

Start from zero: reading financial statements, valuation basics, and how markets actually work.

Our principles

How we work together.

  1. Open to everyone

Any program, any year, any level of experience.

  2. Learn by doing

We research, pitch, and trade instead of just talking about it.

  3. Teach and ask

Share what you know, and never be afraid to ask what you don't.

  4. Research over hype

Decisions are backed by evidence, not headlines or social media.

  5. Respectful debate

Challenge ideas, not people. Disagreement makes every thesis stronger.

  6. Long-term thinking

We focus on fundamentals and patience over quick wins.
